This month’s member of the month is like a silent ninja, taking down each WOD, one after another. Nobody hears her, because, well, she’s a ninja. Fast, strong, consistent… Please help me in congratulating Haley Oxley as our newest member of the month! Always calm and collected, but pushing herself to the absolute limit. You will always see Haley working on any movement the coaches throw at her, but never hear her brag about the PR’s she keeps hitting. Keep up the hard work, Haley!
Here is Haley running miles when a WOD isn’t enough…
– Age – 24
– Occupation – Accountant for the Chicago Fire (the pro soccer team… not to be confused with the tv show or actual fire department)
– Been doing Crossfit for – 1 year…ish
When did you start Crossfit and Why? I started Crossfit almost a year ago because I’d gotten bored just doing my own thing. I wanted to do something completely different than I’d ever done before where I could push myself and have it be a better competitive outlet than adult rec soccer once a week.
What is one type of movement you love and one you hate? I hate overhead squats and snatches, but I really like pull ups now that I’ve figured out how to do them. Oh, and running. I like running too.
Any goals you have set for 2018? I’m running the Indy Mini Marathon on May 5th so my goal for that is to finish in 1:45:00. I also want to be able to overhead squat more than the bar and figure out double unders and TTB.
Tell us one fun fact about you? I’ve watched every single season of Survivor and my life goal is to go on and win it.
How has Crossfit helped you in sports/physical activity/Life? It’s definitely been super humbling. I’ve played soccer since I could walk and I always was a good athlete, but Crossfit brought out basic things I was bad at – like my extreme lack of mobility. As I’ve gotten better at all the movements though, I’m stronger and in way better shape than I ever was when I was just a soccer player.
If you were left on a desert island. What one food and thing (book, music player phone etc..) would you want to be left? Peanut butter. And a spoon to eat it with.
